Town Planner
Eduard van der Linde and Associates was established by the late Eduard van der Linde in 1992 and functions in strategic association with a variety of other professionals in the property industry such as consulting engineers, environmental consultants, land surveyors, architects, geotechnical experts and legal experts. Eduard’s company legacy has been continued by Tamsyn Groesser and Thembi Shelembe, town planners that he trained and mentored, and backed up by the professional drafting services of CompuPlan. Eduard had a Baccalaureus degree in town and regional planning, as well as an MBA from the University of Pretoria. He also attended numerous additional courses and seminars on property law and property development, including the Property Development Program (PDP) at the UCT Graduate School of Business Administration. He was a registered Town and Regional Planner, a member of SAPI, and also a member of the South African Association of Consulting Professional Planners (SAACPP).Prior to 1992, Eduard was employed by Rand Mines Properties (RMP) – at that stage probably the largest township developer in the country. During this period Eduard was involved with or responsible for the establishment of more than 20 townships in an area stretching from Roodepoort (Robertville, Stormill and Diepkloof) in the West, through the central parts of Johannesburg (Riverlea, Crown, Crown South, Ormonde, Aeroton, Mondeor, Meredale, Theta, Selby, City Deep, Denver, Heriotdale) and Germiston (Wadeville and Tunney) to as far east as Fulcrum and Selcourt in Springs. These were primarily industrial townships, but also included several commercial, retail (Southgate and Highgate) and residential applications. During this period, he also got involved with industrial development, valuations and expropriation negotiations. Most of the RMP experience was on proclaimed mining land – renowned for its complications and pitfalls.
Since 1992, this consultancy’s exposure includes a variety of township establishments, potential assessments, rezonings and subdivisions – primarily in Gauteng, but also including projects in Mpumalanga (Lydenburg), KZN (Ladysmith and Nottingham Road) and Port Elizabeth. Current clients include large developers (Dimension Property Holdings, Tennidum, iProp and MFI) and a large number of individual land owners. Eduard van der Linde and Associates provided the town planning input for Eskom’s Soweto Integration Project and more recent projects include assistance with the finalization of partially completed township establishment procedures in the Limpopo Province.
Eduard’s years of experience and insight has been passed on to the current town planners. Tamsyn Groesser graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Science with Honours (Cum Laude) in Urban and Regional Planning and has previous experience in property development in the Rosebank area. Thembi Shelembe has Bachelor of Technology in Town and Regional Planning from the University of Johannesburg and also worked at the City of Joburg Metropolitan Municipality before joining Eduard’s team. The company continues to actively participate and facilitate the lead in community planning initiatives an looks to collaborate in developing a new South African Urban future.
